Pie Day!
Last Saturday’s National Pie Day was a success. The goal for the day was to make as many pies as possible, and also to make some pies I’ve never attempted before. In order to make the most out of the time I had, I decided to make miniature pies. Twelve pies were made in all.
The pies were: (3) Apple Pie; (1) Caramel Chocolate Swirl Pie; (2) Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie; (2) Chocolate Coconut Caramel Pie; (2) Key Lime Pie; and (2) Mango Pie.
The Mango Pie was completely new to me, and the only reason I considered it was because I happened to have some mangoes in the fridge. While I was putting together the ingredients, I thought that the pie itself might end up being too sweet, but once it was baked, the Mango Pie tasted similar to an Apple Pie, only with a richer flavor.
Out of all the pies, my favorite was the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie, which had a layer of baked marshmallows on top. In a lot of ways, it tasted like an amped up Moon Pie. And even then, that doesn’t quite do it justice. It was, safe to say, extremely awesome.
I had a lot of fun doing this, and my wife and her friends really enjoyed the results. Next year, I think I’ll kick it up a level or two and try some crazier recipes.
