West Coast Wednesdays: Prologue

West Coast Avengers with Puff ChrissyI have decided to spend the next one hundred plus Wednesdays talking about The West Coast Avengers. This Marvel comic book was published from 1985 to 1994 and was the first series I picked up from the very beginning. While my brother was a big X-Men fan, the West Coast Avengers was my team. There was something really special about being there to watch the team form and grow from the very beginning, rather than wade through the twenty-plus years of continuity that the X-Men had at the time.

And so, taking a cue from the amazing work of Siskoid’s Blog of Geekery, particularly the Spaceknight Saturdays where he chronologically discussed an issue of Rom every Saturday for what seemed like a decade, I have decided to take on this endeavor.

As I write this, I can already sense that this might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. But no matter! I’m committed to re-reading my West Coast Avengers collection from the beginning (some issues I haven’t read in 25 years) and reliving the excitement and pure awesome that Hawkeye and the gang brought me month in and month out.

Please join me next Wednesday right here as I begin my slow descent ascent into madness awesome with West Coast Wednesdays!

BOOKS

“I absolutely loved this book. EMPTY ROOMS LONELY COUNTRIES is bittersweet and touching, with some really funny bits . . . There are moments of sagacity and wisdom like I’ve rarely seen before, but it’s oh so sad – heartbreakingly, hauntingly, beautifully so . . . easily one of the my top ten favorite books of all time.” - TAMPA BOOK BUZZ
