Friday Shananigans!
Another week done with more books sold. Thanks to everyone who’ve purchased copies.
Someone mentioned about doing commentaries about the fiction posted here on the site, so to start that off, Monday will have Commentary 2.5, which will cover the previously posted short story “Playing with the Dead”. If the story were published chronologically in Empty Rooms Lonely Countries, it would fit between “Little Conundrums” and “The Illusion of Swing”, hence the numbering of the commentary.
If I were in the States, I’d be at MoCCA Art Festival 2009 in New York City. The lists of exhibits and guests attending are impressive.
I’d recommend seeing the talented Mike Dawson, who will be sitting at the AdHouse tables. He’ll be selling copies of his latest book Ace-Face: The Mod With the Metal Arms, and I believe, the phenomenal Freddie & Me.
Speaking of which, Dawson recently started a series of podcasts The Ink Panthers Shows with the amazing Alex Robinson of Box Office Poison and Too Cool to be Forgotten fame. They’re still ironing out the kinks with the podcasts, but the enthusiasm and the funny are in abundance.
Robinson will also be at MoCCA with some original art to sell.
I have had the pleasure of meeting both Dawson and Robinson here and there over the years and they’ve always been extremely gracious and kind. They truly deserve all the recognition they get and more.
Also, at MoCCA, stop by and see the unstoppable Jason Marcy at table 228. I’m not sure what books he’ll be selling at the show, but whatever he has should be worth your time and money. He has been creating autobiographical comics for the better part of the decade, and while the strips tend to circle the same themes, there’s something pure and magical about the comic’s persistence and grittiness. He tends to be overlooked in discussions on autobiographical comics and I think it’s time that changed. Marcy is the real deal, and I think the day he realizes that will be a great day for all of us.
